Manifesto
About us

(c) The Open Journal, 2008-2021

We seek to change the way science is communicated

We stand against the current practice in which

  • Work of individual scientists is hard to find because it is spread out in publications across journals, theses, and teaching material
  • Journal clubs happen in close rooms and opinions are not shared
  • Editorial decisions reject up to 90% of manuscripts, while editorial acceptance can be based on personal connections
  • Publication process is painfully slow, and authors have little control of the process
  • Good work of referees is never acknowledged, while referees cannot be held responsible for negligence or ignorance
  • Journals are paid fortunes for putting your work in public view

We created a system that

  • Lets every scientist display their achievements in one place, including education, employment history, publications, and co-authorships
  • Enables exchange of opinions in a journal club
  • Expedites quick publication with automated editors and production
  • Lets authors have a full control of the publication process, choosing and directly communicating to referees
  • Acknowledges referees for their hard work while making them accountable by making their identity public
  • Makes Open Access publishing free for authors
